Enhancing the modern minimalist journey: healing + self discovery resources
Embarking on the modern minimalist journey is a journey of self discovery. More than decluttering what you are looking for is the you of today. The you that got lost along the way taking care of everyone else, and is longing to be rediscovered and embraced.
In the spirit of this, I’ve noticed how often I recommend my clients to other practitioners that I have found helpful in my personal experience. It deepens the experience of the new life you’re creating, and adds new value to the process.
So here’s a list of my personal recommendations:
Reiki
Reiki is an incredible energetic healing modality that I recommend to EVERYONE. Especially since so much blocked energy can come up tied to our belongings, repressed memories, traumas etc. its the perfect time to add a reiki session. I am trained in holy fire reiki, so this is something I bring into sessions as home energy clearing. I’m currently still searching for a new in person practitioner, I highly recommend finding a local practitioner that speaks to you.
Astrology
I have been fascinated with astrology for all of my adult life. It informs the way I interact with people, and I love learning more about myself and others when I look up their natal chart. Its definitely a hobby of mine, and something I often bring up in conversation. To have your natal chart read (a snapshot of the planetary positions at the moment of your birth) I recommend my personal astrologer, Rose Theodora. She’s been featured in Vogue, working with celebrities and major corporate clients for years, so you know she’s legit. I chat with her at least once a year on my birthday. Another favorite resource in this realm is Chani Nicholas. Chani releases monthly new + full moon readings for each season and a very affordable rate. I highly recommend her book as well, You were born for this. The AstroTwins release free daily, weekly + monthly readings I enjoy delivered to my inbox, Spirit Daughter also has great affordable resources as well.
A subsect of astrology that I really enjoy sharing with people is astrocartography. Essentially this is the astrology of place. Its a great tool to use when creating travel plans. It can also be a great tool to research when you feel called to visit a certain place. Depending on what planetary lines are located near a location can determine what the experience of visiting or living in that place will be like for you.
Human Design
Human design has some similarities to astrology, but it deals in energetics in your body, your purpose in life and the best way for you to use your energy based on your specific design. I had a reading shortly before I was certified in konmari, and it gave me the reassurance that this work is exactly what I’m meant to do. My friend + highly recommended reader is Human Design coach Arianna Maag. She offers complimentary consults, and 1 hour readings with a 20+ page reference booklets for you to revisit the session.
Manifestation
I recently had a 3 session series with Jenni Adishian, a manifestation coach. She also has intuitive gifts which was a lovely combination to have an energy reading, breath work + vision exercises to coach me to my 2022 goals. It was exactly what I needed to reset for the year. If this is intriguing work to you, reach out to Jenni! Her instagram is super inspirational.
Sound healing + aromatherapy
Sound healing through the use of a singing bowl or tuning fork has been a great option to incorporate into my meditation practice. Purification of a space and energy through sound is such a unique modality, if you’ve never tried it I highly recommend trying it out for yourself. Another sense based ritual I love is aromatherapy. I regularly light sage or palo santo to purify the air in my home, as well as my clients homes. Diffusers for essential oils, candles + incense are also great options.
Tarot
More of a personal practice, I have used tarot as a way to guide myself through the lunar cycles, doing a three card spread at each new moon + full moon monthly. It is a natural way to set new intentions, journal, as an act of self care and allows me to take time to go inward on a continual basis. My personal favorite decks are She Wolfe by Devany Wolf + the wild unknown decks by Kim Krans .
Nutrition
When diving into the clothing category, one thing that always comes up is body issues. I believe everyone has had issues feeling confident in their bodies, and experienced disordered eating at some point in their lives. My friend + recommendation Laura of Wild Lyons Wellness helped educate me on so many things related to food. She is such a great resource + can create meal recommendations, supplement support + hormone therapy options. Laura offers functional nutrition consultations , packages + a group program launching soon.
Body work
I’ve tried many different body work modalities for working through trauma. Craniosacral therapy with my naturopath, chiropractic work, and acupuncture to name a few that I recommend. Craniosacral work is akin to a massage therapy with light touch, and is very relaxing. Chiropractic work can be used for physical injuries on a more ongoing basis or if you simply feel out of alignment. Acupuncture is something I’ve heard used for everything from pregnancy pains to migraines. There are many physical ailments that can be aided by this work. One of the most impactful things related to body work I have done was EMDR therapy for 2 months. I highly recommend finding a certified therapist that you connect with if you feel called to this work, its highly affective for a variety of trauma related issues.
Hypnosis
I cant speak highly enough about my experience with Kira of Evernew Hypnosis. She has the most incredible warm, maternal sunshine energy. She allows you to feel held, but also go deep into the subconscious. I really appreciated her approach. It felt alot like therapy to me, but more highly focused on a specific area. I was able to clear through alot of childhood trauma in 6 weeks time, absolutely life changing work. Reach out to Kira if any of this resonates.
Psychics + mediums
Maybe its not your cup of tea, but I was a nonbeliever too until I had a reading in 8th grade that completely changed my mind. It was my first introduction to the occult or alternative healing world, and I was hooked. I used to meet with a psychic every 6 months or so when I lived in Cincinnati, and now I meet with Kellie, of the Spiritual Messenger quarterly. I viewed it like a therapy session to see if I was on the right path, get messages from spirit + my ancestors + have a tarot reading. I haven’t found any psychics I like locally yet, but I’ll be sure to update when I find one.
Akashic records
I can’t fully explain this modality, but the akashic records are essentially a book of your past lives that can be accessed by a reader, or on your own if you intuit that ability. Its a similar modality in that the reader is communicating with spirit or ancestors to communicate the messages you need to hear in this lifetime. My personal reader recommendation is Martha of Phlighter Aimes.
Eastern medicines
Numerology, feng shui + ayurveda are all great eastern healing modalities I’ve dabbled in. I particularly love numerology as it applies to seeing signs in your life, and how this can offer guidance. Feng shui is something I’m fascinated by, and I’ve begun incorporating this work in my work with clients + in my own home to rearrange furniture + examine the flow of energy in my space. My friend + konmari consultant Sachiko of Soulful Simplicity is an incredible resource in feng shui, reach out if you feel called for a virtual home consult. Ayurveda is more closely aligned to a nutritional guide option, I particularly love the focus on self soothing through an oil practice, including oil pulling + full body application. One practitioner I had a great experience with related to these medicines is the avery method. I can’t fully explain how this method works, but it has some ties to numerology. Chikako of the avery method offers 90 minute virtual sessions.
Other resources
Enneagram, the four tendencies, and the five love languages are all personality resources I also recommend looking into. All of these have books you can read as well as plenty of podcasts you can find + learn about.
I hope you find this list helpful in your journey!
