guide to tmm organizing styles

guide to tmm organizing styles

Have you ever wondered what the styles tmm primarily works with when it comes to organizing? During our home therapy work, the energizing element includes making storage upgrades to align with your needs + the aesthetics of your space. We decided to put together a quick reference guide to explain our style options. This is something our team has always had an internal version of, but we decided to make a version of it public to live on the blog!

Japandi

The Japandi style we work with is primarily identified by the use of white and bamboo in its colors and materials. Traditional Japandi style is a combination of Japanese and Scandinavian styles (which you know are a fav for us!) Like most of the styles we work with, it is centered around tranquil, minimalist and functional spaces. It also focuses on a lot of natural materials and color ways, holding true to both the Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics. Some other hallmarks of this style to look out for are the use of natural light woods and stone, cotton/linen, and neutral palettes.

hygge

The Hygge style we work with is primarily identified by the use of felt, soft textures and muted tones. Hygge is a Danish concept based on the feeling of being content while enjoying life’s simple pleasures. Hygge design is inviting and cozy and is centered on comforting neutral colors and natural materials. One example of an organizing piece that exemplifies this style are the bins by SortJoy. With rounded edges, neutral felt tones and an overall soft appearance it visually softens the space.

MCM

The Mid Century Modern style we work with is primarily identified by the use of rattan and gold and more light medium toned wood. MCM has played a huge part in modern design for quite some time now, when discussing design it is likely one of the first phrases that comes to mind. It stems from the bauhaus movement in germany in the 30s, which was then influenced by the space age in the 50s. Its hallmarks are simple (oftentimes wooden but also metal) furniture that is functional and with clean lines. Simple rounded tapered legs, or pieces such as rounded chrome leg cesca chairs. MCM lives in a happy and warm, functional but calming, and inviting space, and transitions well among more modern styles.

MODERN

The modern style we work with is primarily identified by the use of a monochromatic white palette across materials. Similarly to the other styles we work with, modern design focuses on simplicity, clean lines, lack of over ornamentation and embraces natural tones and materials, and breathes in natural light. In our work this focuses alot on ikea pieces like the kuggis line we love so much.

TRADITIONAL

The traditional style we work with is primarily identified by the use of acrylic and white tones across materials. Traditional design at the modern minimalist were referring to the traditional organizing style that became popular over the last 10 years, emphasizing high level of categorization and acrylic containers. The Container store features a lot of items that would fall into this style. It can flex around multiple design types and is multifunctional, also loving clean, calm, light and bright spaces.
